SATOMI MATOBA

A nomansland exists in between cultures, This idea stemmed from my experience of living between two cultures. Marginal people who live in the nomansland need constantly to renegotiate one's space between conflicting systems. That is a difficult situation. However I feel a threshold to a utopia is hidden here. Becasuse the rules that seemed unshakable in the center of a culture lose power in this frontier, and that makes the impossibles within a cultural framework possible, at a risk to lose oneself in an unbearable sense of dislocation. My work explores such nomansland, I dissolve familiar space in order to reconstruct the world, contemplating an ambiguous open ended potential in the act of shifting boundaries.
